Hi all
A zone bookclub has been started. An initial meeting was held via ZBP on October 19 to pick some books. The meetings will be very informal, and each month's discussion will be led by whomever picked the book for that particular discussion. For November, the book under discussion will be Extreme Measures by Michael Connelly. Unfortunately, this book is not available through NLS but is available on bookshare and probably from some other audio sources, perhaps even public libraries. I believe it was Lisa the Little Cat (sorry Lisa if I destroyed your user name) who picked this book, so she will be leading the discussion. Check with CL Liz for details about the date and time of the November discussion as I don't believe that has been worked out yet. (
i looked it up on bookshare and i didn't see michael connalee for extreme measures, it says michael palmer but i guess it's the book your talking about..
Synopsis: Only one doctor could have written this pulse dash pounding prescription for terror where people who are pronounced dead are later found semi-alive as Zombies. It all starts with a young woman who goes to Boston to find her brother who is missing. Is he a Zombi? Is there more to the story? Is narcotics involved? Guns? Bad Police Officers?
Oops, my bad. I thought Lisa said Connelly, but she probably said Palmer. So, yes, it is Extreme Measures by Michael Palmer. Thanks for clearing that up.
lol becky, that's really awesome. i'm going to get it on bookshare and read it. so, where do we go to get the date for the next meetings and stuff?
I'll either post here or create a new post on the booknook board as soon as I know about the November meeting.
can I be a part of this? do I need to let someone know? love reading new books.
I think anyone can join. As soon as I find out when the November meeting will be, I'll post it, and anyone can call in to the private conference on ZBP on the specified date and time.
How is a conference going to work, if more than 10 people wish to be there? has a special conference been set up which can take more people?
yeah, i was wondering that too kev, and if a lot of people are going to be there, then it's going to be crazy when different peoploe want to talk and stuff, why not ventrilo? or something over the computer, that might be better
Kev, on the last confernce some people brought in other people. I'm not sure quite how that is done, but you probably know more about that kind of thing than I.
To answer the other question, we had decided on phone conferencing because not everyone uses ventrilo or wants to.
Ok Becky, I guess that works, though could be very difficult for those of us with hearing loss. People in conferences all have different quality phones, and so they are all at different volumes. you can with the system ask indeviduals to alter their volume, or control the conference volume as a whole, but if you have people on 3 way, it's not as easy to do.
I suppose if too many people join and it just isn't working out, Liz might consider using ventrilo instead of ZBP. So far there has only been one meeting, and things seemed to work out pretty well, except people did tell me a couple times I wasn't coming in very loud, and I wasn't on a 3-way. So things could change in the future.
all right becky, that works too, lol. And, that's understandable that not everyone wants to use a computer or ventrilo
The author is Micael Conelli. It is available on audible.com for sure. So, make sure you read the right book. Again, it is Extreme measures by Michael Conelli
Actually, Extreme Measures is written by Vince Flynn. There is an author named Michael Coneli though, so I don't know. There is a book called extreme Measures by Michael Palmer. We need clarification on who's who and what's what.
Here is a synopsis of extreme measures byVince Flinn (pardon my mispelling).
Mitch Rapp and his protege, Mike Nash, may have met their match. The CIA has detected and intercepted two terrorist cells, but a third is feared to be on the loose. Led by a dangerous mastermind obsessed with becoming the leader of al-Qaeda, this determined and terrifying group is about to descend on America.
Rapp needs the best on this assignment, and Nash, who has served his government honorably for 16 years first as an officer in the Marine Corps and then as an operative in an elite counterterrorism team run by Rapp is his choice. Together, they have made careers out of meeting violence with extreme violence and have never wavered in the fight against the jihadists and their culture of death. Both have fought the war on terrorism in secret without accolades or acknowledgment of their personal sacrifices. Both have been forced to lie to virtually every single person they care about, and both have soldiered on with the knowledge that their hard work and lethal tactics have saved thousands of lives.
But the political winds have changed in America, and certain leaders on Capitol Hill are pushing to have men like Rapp and Nash put back on a short leash. And then one spring afternoon in Washington, DC, everything changes.
Using his insider knowledge of intelligence agencies and the military, Flynn once again delivers an all-too-real portrayal of a war that is that is waged every day by a handful of brave, devoted souls. Smart, fast-paced, and jaw-droppingly realistic, Extreme Measures is the political thriller of our time.
I did clarify it above. It's the one by Michael Palmer that will be discussed at the next meeting.
I would like to join the book club, but I honestly don't to read this month's book. Can I just pop in the private conference in November and join then?
You might want to send a PM to Liz. She's the one really in charge.
Think I'll give the book by Michael Palmer a read. It sounds kinda like a mystery mixed with thriller, two of my favorite types of reads.
it sounds cool, like a scifi thing
